NCERT Class 7 Civics: Chapter 10, Question Exercise Q.5
What role does the Constitution play in peoples struggle equality?
The Constitution plays a vital role in promoting the struggle for equality among people. The Constitution is a set of fundamental principles and laws that govern a country’s political and social system. It enshrines the basic rights and freedoms of citizens, irrespective of their caste, creed, gender, religion, or social status.
The Constitution provides a framework for promoting and protecting equality among people. It lays down the foundation for a democratic and egalitarian society, where every individual has an equal opportunity to participate in the political and social affairs of the country.
Furthermore, the Constitution sets out the framework for the functioning of the government and the judiciary, which are responsible for ensuring that the principles of equality and social justice are upheld. The Constitution provides for the establishment of independent institutions like the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, and the National Commission for Women to safeguard the rights and interests of marginalized communities.
In case of any violation of the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution, the judiciary plays a crucial role in upholding the rights of the citizens. It provides a platform for people to seek redressal for any violation of their rights and to hold the government accountable for its actions.
Therefore, the Constitution acts as a catalyst for promoting the struggle for equality among people. It provides a framework for a just and equitable society, where every citizen has equal rights and opportunities, regardless of their social status or background.
